So last Saturday, we made it official Foster Vernon (read his bio here) is no more. He is officially part of the family, which was the end goal, but I for one was uncertain when we first took him in. Now I am so happy to make our home, his forever home.
Before I continue, I just want to share a Facebook post from the shelter where we first fostered Vernon, and ultimately adopted him. Not sure who posted it, but it is lovely written and 100% true.

So Vernon now makes it two foster fails in our family. Five years ago, our girl Topsy (read her bio here) was my fiance's first ever foster mama cat. After she gave birth, and was through with her motherly duties, my fiance Melissa adopted her.
In the weeks they were together, they had formed a bond, that Melissa could not deny. Vernon's foster fail wasn't at all the case. The initial intentions were to ultimately adopt, but we needed to know if it was right.
It hadn't even been 2 months, since we lost our Philly (read his story here) , so we weren't sure if we were ready to adopt. Vernon and his situation kind of fell in our lap. The situation was, he wasn't going to be ready for adoption for over a month.
He had blood work and a dental scheduled in August, and it was only the end of June, so he needed a place to stay in the meantime. Melissa, who had fostered for 5 years mostly kittens, saw an opportunity to help a cat in need.
When we took Vernon home on June 30th, we made no promises, he had to fit with us, and with Topsy. Although he was a cat full of energy, it seemed to fit with us, and the three of us got along right away.
Topsy however took awhile, but after a few weeks, she too seemed to accept him. Now they both can get on reach other's nerves, but the fighting and screaming we heard early on has ended. He still chases her, and she still swats at him, but that is the extent of it.
We have two resident cats now, both of whom are foster fails, but in different situations. If you are thinking about getting a cat, I urge you to adopt from your local shelter, these are the best cats you'll find.
They have gotten a second change at making a life, after most likely being abandon by previous owners, who had no right taking care of them in the first place. We often wonder, who could have left cats like Topsy and Vernon behind they are such wonderful souls.
If you aren't ready to adopt, but love cats. I urge you to foster, these shelters need all the help they can get. Start with fostering it is so rewarding. Who knows maybe one day, you'll have a foster fail story to tell too.
