For those that follow me and subscribe to my channel, you all have already met Vernon through my videos and social media posts. As promised this week's blog post was going to be a bio about our new addition.
Vernon came to us from our local animal shelter. He was found by animal control badly injured to the point that he couldn't care for himself. He couldn't feed, drink, or even bathe himself because of his state.
The poor boy was a skeleton with serve mouth ulcers. The woman at the shelter explained how he came in. He was bleeding and foaming from the mouth, literally a shell of what he is now.
He is a foster with the option to adopt, which would be purrfect for us. If you follow me, you know Purrfect Fun was inspired by our Philly cat, who we lost nearly 2 months ago. Vernon is in no way a replacement for Philly, as he was one of a kind.
My fiance volunteers for this shelter, and has done much more. As she has already fostered over 100 kittens in the last 5 years for the shelter. She saw an opportunity to give a good cat a good home, so we did, and for now he is just our foster nothing more.
He loves his foster home, but our Topsy has yet to accept him, and in fact I think she may be even afraid of him. Vernon has been here nearly a week, and could care less about our girl cat Topsy, while she can't even relax around him when we let him out of his room.
Let me explain their relationship a little bit further. The first few days, Vernon was exploring a lot, and to this day he still explores the house. During those first few days he could care less about Topsy and her rumbling and hissing.
Now he is exploring less, and noticing her more, and when they lock eyes often times she runs, and he chases her. We think he thinks it's a game, but I am not sure Topsy sees it that way too.
They have been in 2 fights since he has moved in. The first came the night, he arrived. Topsy was around the carrier, and my fiance thought it would be a good time to let him out. 5 mins later he cried out and she attacked, the reason he cried was that he had to throw up.
The second fight was yesterday she had just used the litter box as he watched, she ran up the stairs and he chased her, and she cried out. Now I am not sure, if he was being territorial about the litter boxes or just playing.
I might have prevented another fight or at the very least another chase, as I caught him watching her again in the litter box. This time however I acted and got his attention with a wand toy.
Time will only tell if we can keep him. He is a great young well behaved cat, who we think may be around 2 as he has a lot of kitten left in him.
If it isn't meant to be, we will surely enjoy the time we have with him. In the meantime make sure to check my social media accounts regularly, for more videos of Vernon.
