Today we will be discussing the three FFF's, Faucets, Fountains, and Felines. Before we met Vernon, our foster cat, who is working on being part of the family, we know nothing of this. I mean we know what each is separately, we just didn't know they can also go together.
A faucet is a part of a sink, and the sink is where we get our water from. As humans we do a lot with faucet water, mostly wash things. One thing we don't do is drink from the faucet, and until Vernon came along no one did.
Fountains are where people drink from, but now with Covid, not sure if drinking fountains are still around especially public ones. Did you know? There are drinking fountains for pets, again before Vernon came along there was never a need for this.
Finally Felines better known as cats, and what Vernon is. In my experience cats like dogs drink from a water bowl. Then Vernon came along, and he didn't want to bother with any of that.
Hope he came home, and went right to the faucet. First it was the faucet in the kitchen, which didn't let him drink from. Then he went to the one in the bathroom, and we caved, and he drank, like he never drank before.
After a day or two we saw a pattern, and that is when I googled how to get your cat to stop drinking from the faucet. Number one answer was get a fountain. So I ordered one, and in a few days we had a running fountain.
Even though we had the fountain, the visits to the bathroom faucet continued. It is not like he didn't like the fountain, he tested it out and drank from it, but he just kept going back to the faucet too.
Finally I put matters into my own hands, I would not give into his demands for faucet water. Every time he would ask for it, I would point him in the direction of the fountain. It was like I was training him to use it.
It has been weeks since his last request for faucet water, he has been going to the fountain regular. The directions for it, is to replace the water and clean the unit weekly, but we have been doing it sooner. He basically tells us, when it is time to replace the water, because we notice him not drinking.
As soon as the unit is clean and has new water in it, he goes back to drinking. Since the unit is made of plastic, it is suggested to clean regularly, because the toxins in the plastic could be released into the water otherwise.
So far the fountain is working to keep our feline away from the faucet. If you would like to learn more about the pros and cons of fountains for your pets, I suggest you read this article below.

Faucet Water Drinking Cat Drinks From the Fountain and Likes It
Well I hope this article was useful, especially for those who are dealing with faucet water drinking felines, the fountain option worked for us. It is definitely worth a try, unless you enjoyed the water constantly running.
Now we still have that sound, but the fountain just continuously recycles the water instead of running new water all the time. It is on 24 hours a day, but I enjoy the sound it is soothing to the soul.
