Did you watch my latest video yet, "Cat Moon Walk?" It is pretty funny, check it out above👆. This cat literally gets on two feet, and starts moving all to Michael Jackson's Billie Jean 😜.
So why, and how do cats do this? In this post I'll discuss it all. Cats have a reason to do everything that they do. Standing up on two feet is no different.
Cats are known for their agility and unique movement patterns. The can switch from a walk to a full burst in an instant. One of their most intriguing behaviors is standing and walking on two feet, often called "cat meerkating."
The term comes from a meerkat, which stands upright too. A meerkat is a member of mongoose family, and calls home in southwestern Africa. Mongoose meaning small cat like.
The above ☝ image is of a meerkat if you were wondering. Now it make sense, why it is called "cat meerkating," when a cat gets on it's hing legs and stands or walks.
Cats do this for several reasons. One of the main reasons is intimate it's predators. Not seen in the video above, was a tub of running water. The cat was trying to intimate what deemed to be a predator (the running water.) 😃
Another reason a cat does this, is to get a better view of things, which could also explain the video above. The cat wanted to see what was inside the tub.
A third reason, and I know our cat Topsy does this for a fact, is to gain our attention. If we go to pet Topsy, sometimes, she will get on her hing legs, as to say look what I can do.
Now that we know the why, what about the how? Cats have many bones that help them move different parts of their body. This combined with their balance and agility help them stand and walk on two legs.
Now you may think this act or trick whatever you want to call it, may be cute, but cause health issues if done often. If a cat is on two legs for long periods of time, it can cause stress to their hips.
So please don't teach your cat to do it. With Topsy, she just stands, and it is nothing we taught her, or make her do. It also literally lasts only a second.
