Lately our cat Topsy has made herself comfortable right in the middle of our hallway. So this blog post is about cats, and where the like to rest, not sleep, but rest.
So why has Topsy, picked the middle of the hallway to chill? Well according to this Quora question, the top two answers are that they are trying to be a nuisance to other cats in the house or they want something from you.
If you have read my other posts about Topsy and Vernon, you know getting them to at least accept each other wasn't easy. Vernon likes to play a lot, and Topsy sometimes entertains that. Other times she lets him know no more playing, as she lets out a cat scream.
I can see, how maybe she is being annoying to him by resting in the middle of the hallway. Often times, he chases her out of that area, so maybe that is the reason.
How bout the other top answer? Now that I think about it, she is often in the hallway right before the cats get fed. Although after she eats, she'll go back there to rest.
Another reason I found in a Google Search, was that they like to be near their people, and what better place than in a walk way. This article mentions it is the best place to swat at an oncoming ankle.
This to me goes back to getting our attention, so I am starting to see a pattern here. Also I notice she does this when we are on our feet, so the motive could possibly be to gain our attention.
So with all that said, it is simple, your cat most likely wants your attention if it is resting in the hallway. The hallway is a high traffic area, what better place to be.
It's important to remember that even if your cat has no desire to simply interact with you, it still needs your love and affection. Next time you see your cat in the hallway, don't ignore it, because it may want something from you.
It could simply be affection, or something more like their food dish to be filled. Or maybe it has nothing to do with you, and be about the other cat(s).
