Poor girl she never saw it coming. This has happened to my wife many times, but I would always blame her until I realized the cats where behind it all the whole time.
Yes this is a thing, and I'll go into detail on why cats always get in our way in this post. After seeing my wife trip over the cats constantly, I always walk around the house with one eye to the ground. Even being extra cautious I couldn't avoid the inevitable.
Cats are known for their independent nature and aloof behavior, which can sometimes make it seem like they are "cutting off" their human companions. But why do cats do this?
One reason is that cats have a strong territorial instinct. They like to mark their territory with their scent and will often do this by rubbing against objects or people.
This can be seen as a form of affection, but it also serves to assert their dominance and claim their space. So in essence they are claiming you as the step in front of you 😺
This maybe the number 1 reason as many considered it a form of herding. They are not only claiming you, but also herding you in the direction they want you to go in.
Another reason is cats also have a strong instinct to hide when they are feeling stressed or threatened. This can be caused by changes in their environment, such as a new pet or baby in the house, or even by something as simple as a loud noise outside.
When a cat feels stressed, it may withdraw and seek out a safe and quiet place to hide. In doing so they may just cut you off. It kinda gives you the feeling of everyone for themselves right? 😂
The reason is independence. Cats are independent and solitary animals that have their own set of behaviors that can sometimes be perceived as them cutting off their humans.
Understanding their nature and providing them with their own space and resources can help create a more harmonious relationship with your feline companion.
Finally, cats are known for their mysterious nature, and they often do things that humans cannot explain. They may simply be following their own instincts and desires, and not necessarily trying to "cut off" their human companions.
So really it can be anything. A cat's behavior is still a mystery to most, it is whatever the cat is thinking about in that moment. Trust me, whatever it is, it knows what it is doing.
