Kittens are so cute, and fun, and energetic, I could go on and on. All these characteristics and more are the reasons why people love kittens. However this post is not so much about why people love kittens as it is about how to adopt and kitten.
Many organizations especially shelters won't allow you to adopt a kitten unless, you already have another cat or sometimes dog in your home. Why is this, well you have to remember a kitten is a baby, you wouldn't leave a baby alone, so why would you think leaving a kitten by it's self is acceptable.
Our local shelter has hundreds of kittens get adopted each year, and not one goes to an empty home. If you want to adopt a kitten, you must already have a cat at home, or adopt at least two preferably siblings.
I have seem the adoption practice first hand as we foster kittens. We had a litter of only 2 a couple of years ago, and they got adopted together. It was so nice to hear that, as we saw them from birth, and for them to get a forever home together meant the world to us.
One great benefit of adopting siblings, you don't have to worry about introducing two cats, as they already know each other. Our two cats took a while to settle in (Read all about it here), imagine not having to go through all of that.
So you already have two kittens that get along, because they are siblings. Well not only do they get along, they probably play with each other too. Our two cats may already tolerate each other, but they are not playmates.
Vernon loves to play, but our older girl Topsy is not a fan. Every time he wants to play, she lets him know, she isn't about that. So yet another reason to get sibling kittens, you probably won't need to play with them as often as they will just play with each other.
Having two kitten siblings play with each other would also benefit an older cat, if you have one. Say you adopted a kitten, and you already had an older cat at home, that kitten would want to play with your older cat like Vernon does to Topsy. Having two kittens may give your older cat a break from all that.
Getting back to what I said earlier, you wouldn't leave a baby alone. If you get sibling kittens, they will keep each other company, when you aren't home. Even our cats probably appreciate each others company.
Sharing is caring, when it comes to your wallet. Kitten siblings share a lot of things, toys, litter boxes, food, water, pretty much everything. This can mean the cost of owning one or two kitten siblings can be similar.
Having two kitten siblings can mean healthier cats too. As siblings they learn to groom together, and this may mean they'll groom each other. Finally two kittens mean double the love for you as their person.
So if you are considering getting a kitten, make it two, you won't be disappointed. Please visit your local animal shelter, our two cats were shelter rescues, you'll won't find other cats who give you so much love. So adopt from your local shelter, you would be saving lives.
